BRUNO CERBONI BAJARDI



Bruno Cerboni Bajardi was born in 1969. He lives in Urbino where he specialized in engraving at the Istituto Statale d’Arte “Scuola del Libro”.

He perfected his skills under the ‘maestros’ Calavalle, Bruscaglia, Quieti, Cionini and Peral, and since 1990 has been working for KBA-Notasys on the production of international banknotes, teaching the technique of engraving in both burin and digital form.

He combines his engraving work with constant painting, exhibiting as a painter, engraver and copyist at numerous group and solo exhibitions.

He has collaborated with the Accademia “Raffaello” of Urbino of which he is a member and with the International Centre for Artistic Engraving Kaus.
Since 2010 he has been a member of the IBDA (International Banknote Designers Association) as master engraver.

Bruno Cerboni Bajardi, who has always been committed to teaching and spreading the art of burin engraving, in 2011 created and founded the IEA (Intaglio Engraver Academy) in Urbino, together with the IBDA association, of which he was the academic director.
Since 2019 he has directed the BCB Academy, which continues and extends the aims and activities of the IEA.

Activities and exposures

  • 1988
    He graduated from the Istituto d’Arte of Urbino specializing in engraving under Professor Adriano Calavalle.

  • 1988/1991
    For three years he attended the painting and engraving course at the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino, the summer engraving courses held by Professor Renato Bruscaglia, and for two years Professor Alceo Quieti’s stamp drawing and engraving course.

  • 1991
    He moved to Switzerland (Lausanne) where he joined the company “De La Rue Giori” (now “KBA-NotaSys”), improving his drawing and engraving with Professor Trento Cionini and working on the production of international banknotes.

  • 1994/1995
    He perfected his burin engraving at the Banco Central de Mexico under Professor Jorge Peral

  • 1998
    He returned to Urbino, where he continued to work on the production of international banknotes and to teach the technique of burin engraving for this company, while at the same time continuing his painting activities.

  • 2000
    He participated as a copyist in the group exhibition “Arte duplicata” dedicated to Raffaello Sanzio and his epoch in Urbino (curated by Augusto Calzini, President of Pro Urbino).

  • 2001
    He participated in the youth art exhibition “Dei diletti e delle penne” in Rimini

  • 2002
    He exhibited “The three moons – the madness of reason” painting cycle inaugurated with a performance of music and acting in collaboration with other artists at the Castle of Montegridolfo.

    The exhibition-performance of “The Three Moons – the Madness of Reason”‘ a reflection on three voices (music, painting, poetry)’ was held again at the Mausoleum of the Della Rovere in Urbino.

    He participated in the “Exhibition of Engraving and Microengraving – The Great Masters of Paper Money” at the Collegio Raffaello in Urbino (edited by the President of Pro Urbino Augusto Calzini)

  • 2003
    He received the nomination of Academician from the Accademia “Raffaello” of Urbino.

    He participated in a course held in Canada by Prof. Jorge Peral on “digital engraving”.

  • 2000/2004
    He made copies for the Accademia “Raffaello” in Urbino of Raphael’s works “Baldassarre Castiglione” and, from life, “La Fornarina”, “Portrait of a noblewoman” (La Muta), “Francesco Maria II”, now in permanent exhibition at Raphael’s birthplace.

  • 2004
    He participated as a teacher of the burin technique in the courses organized by the Kaus International Centre for Artistic Engraving in Urbino.

  • 2005
    He participated in the collective exhibition of engravings “Paths of contemporary engraving” (curated by the Kaus International Center for Artistic Engraving of Urbino) at the Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Fine Arts “W. Strzeminski” in Lodz (Poland)

    The touring exhibition “Percorsi dell’incisione contemporanea” (Contemporary Engraving Routes), curated by Kaus of Urbino, continued at the birthplace of Raffaello in Urbino.

    He participated in the collective exhibition of engravings “Empreinte” at the Atelier de Gravure a.s.b.l. in Luxembourg (curated by Kaus)

    He participated in the “Premio Movimento nelle Segrete di Bocca” and in the exhibition of the works of the artists selected at the Bocca Bookshop in Milan (curated by Giorgio Lodetti).

    He made an original engraving for Giuseppe Piersigilli’s poem ‘La stanza’ and he participated in “Risorgente Luna” Art Exhibition (run by the artistic-poetic association “La Luna”) at the Multimedia Space of San Francesco Civitanova Marche Alta

  • 2011
    He participated in the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy – Orto dell’Abbondanza Urbino.

    A true copy of Raphael’s “Portrait of Guidubaldo da Montefeltro” is on permanent display in the Musical Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in Urbino.

    He made an original engraving attached in 100 copies to the essay “L’assoluto e le sue effigi” (The Absolute and its Effigies) by Yves Bonnefoy published by Istmi (edited by Eugenio De Signoribus, Enrico Capodaglio, Feliciano Paoli).

    He participated in the group exhibition as part of the 1st IES International Engravers Summit at the Hilton Hotel in Budapest

    Together with the IBDA association, he founded the IEA Intaglio Engraver Academy
