The Teaching Approach

The intimate environment of the BCB Academy facilitates a direct, one-to-one, hands-on approach to teaching. We limit annual student intake to a maximum of 8 students to ensure that each person receives adequate time for teaching by demonstration and mentoring along with working on exercises and projects.
Students will enjoy direct supervision and mentoring by BCB-Academy teaching staff along with visits to cultural sites, museums and galleries all focused on the specialized theme of intaglio engraving.
To complement this, regular visits for intaglio engraving technology developers such as KBA-NotaSys and JURA ensure that BCB-Academy students receive the very latest tips, advice and training on the very latest versions of this technology.
Ultimately students will evolve and migrate to working on complete intaglio engraving and design projects. These are developed in co-operation with the student employer management to allow both the BCB-Academy teaching staff and the employer benchmark and assess student development and progress.

The BCB-Academy Process

We are conscious of the fact that making a commitment to intaglio engraver education requires significant planning and in many cases the engraver cannot afford to be absent from the workplace for prolonged periods of time.

For this reason it is important for us to establish a clear understanding of both the engraver training requirements and the priorities and expectations of the engraver employer and management. By clearly establishing these goals from the very beginning we can elaborate a customised training plan that will meet your objectives and facilitate engraver training in a structured fashion with minimal impact on day-to-day intaglio engraving work at your facility.

The process we use to achieve the above involves the following steps:
• Engraver Skills Analysis/Benchmarking
• Statement of Management Goals & Objectives
• Development of Skills Gap Analysis
• Development of Training Plan
• Integration of Training Plan with Work Requirements
• Training at BCB-Academy and Employer site
• Review

The above learning approach is structured and flexible and allows access by engravers at any skill-level to expert resources and integration of engraver skill-planning with employer goals.
