INTAGLIO

The BCB Academy of Urbino is involved in the production of engravings for banknote and is committed to the dissemination and teaching of the art of burin engraving, an ancient tool that from the end of 1400s was used in the engraving of translation of painted works, especially in the circle of artists and engravers linked to the great Urbino painter Raffaello Sanzio. This prestigious art has been practiced and thus kept alive up to the present day in the valuable paper industry. Today, only in this Academy, Bruno Cerboni Bajardi, and the world’s last remaining still active master engravers, teach the prestigious art of antique burin intaglio by integrating it with the new technologies of digital engraving, as it forms an essential cultural, theoretical, and practical basis for the digital engraver.
